Every calculator on this site applies a published formula to numbers you supply. That process is reliable in a narrow sense and limited in an important one: a formula cannot know your circumstances. This page sets out plainly where our tools stop being useful, so you can judge what weight to give any result.
They produce estimates derived from defined methods. Each page states the formula used, because the method determines the answer and different legitimate methods give different answers. Ideal weight has four established formulas that disagree by several kilograms; BMR equations fall within roughly ten percent of measured values; investment projections rest entirely on a return rate that nobody can guarantee.
A calculator showing 1,847 looks precise. The precision is in the arithmetic, not in the underlying method. Treat the digits after the first two or three as a product of the calculation rather than a claim about reality.
Our salary, loan, mortgage, investment and retirement calculators are educational. They do not account for your tax position, credit profile, job security, existing commitments or risk tolerance. Projections assume rates and conditions that will not hold constant over the periods involved.
